An Incident that Changed Me
It was all too sudden. I heard my mother scream, but was not
quick enough to react. I quickly turned back but I could not see her, but I could
still hear her screaming in pain. The incident happened five years ago, the
memory engraved into my mind. It reminds me about how dangerous the world is,
why we should be prepared; and to never let our guard down, even for a second.
My family
and I were at one of the best restaurants around town. Being such a popular
place not only meant that the food there was delicious; it also meant that
finding a good parking space was nearly impossible. We were really hungry, so
waiting any customers to leave was not an option. We had to find some place
further to park. Soon enough, we found and empty, dark alley, about two streets
away from the restaurant. So we walked there, and surely dinner felt even more
satisfying then, considering all the effort we put through.
Not
long later, it was time we went home. It was then when the empty alley started
to scare me. The place looked pretty deserted, and need not to mention that it
was really dark. The stores around had all their cold metal shutters shut. No
pedestrians, causing the eerie sound of the wind to be clearly heard. There were a few vehicles, but only ours seemed
to have been moved recently. I had the urge to leave the area as soon as I can,
so I was the first to enter the car. Then I started to have a bad feeling,
which something bad was going to happen. I wish I was wrong. Not long after I settled
down in my seatbelts, a loud roar of a motorcycle broke the silence, followed
by my mother’s screams for help two seconds later.
