02-Lecture Hours Are Too Long
Universities all around the world serve long lecture hours to their
students. What if they just make short lecture hours to the students instead of
long, stressing, and boring lecture hours? Somehow, these phenomena have become
a polemic to be discussed as it will ignite long-term effects to the students,
especially in their studies. From the observations of these students who get
involved in this phenomenon, we can say that long lecture hours have reduce the
students’ attention, disturb the student’s study time, and also lead to
skipping class by the students.
The main effect to the student from
the long lecture hours is the decrease in students’ attention in lecture. Generally,
our brains need to rest whenever we are working for a long time in order to
refresh our capability of working and productivity. The same situation can be
applied here. However, the continuous and long lecture hours will only decrease
the student’s attention. As the lecture hours progress, the learning rate of
the students and their ability to focus on a particular subject will drop.
Thus, this might cause the students to sleep and even talking in the lecture
which then results of no input of learning from the lectures. From this
situation, it will be a very great loss for the students when they are
following these long lecture hours despite they have pay through their noses
for a session of these lecture hours.
Moreover, I can say that long
lecture hours are actually disturbing the student’s study time after classes.
This will limits the time that needed to spend by each students to do their own
study and revision after lecture. Consequently, they might not be able to
manage their own time as their own timetable has been disturbed by the long lecture
hours. So, it is not worthily to conduct long lecture hours to the students as
this will disturb the student’s own study time.
In another different perspective,
the effects of this long lecture hours can be seen in the aspects of the students’
behavior in the universities. As the long lecture hours come to them, they
pretend to skip and miss the lecture in order to escape themselves from the
boring, long and dying hours of lectures. For a long-term effect, this situation
will affect the students’ performance in their academic field. They might not
be able to score in their examinations as they often pretend to skip the
lecture intentionally. Thus, long lecture hours will not only contribute to the
decline in the performance of the students, but also affecting the university’s
grade in the particular field.
As a conclusion, it is obviously
seen that long lecture hours are just ‘killing the students from their inside’.
As we can see now, many negative impacts are occurring around us from this
phenomenon. However, every thing in the world comes in partners. It is not fair
if we just judge the long lecture hour’s phenomenon by just a glance only. Take
a deep look at it and we will eventually find some advantages from this
situation.
