“The lecture is so boring. Can I leave now?” This situation always happen when the students lose their interests to pay attention in the class, especially the lecture hours are too long. This issue has been raised for long time ago. Actually, there are a few causes that lead to long lecture hours in UTP.

First of all, long lecture hours which UTP students always complain about is considered as sufficient of time all the lecturers to complete the syllabus within the credit hours. This is to ensure that all students can understand well when the lecture is carried on. Some students may have different learning progress with the others. Therefore, they need some extra time to understand the lesson thoroughly by asking the questions.

Besides that, the improper management of UTP in shifting the lecturers is another reason. Some of the lecturers are not available for a particular period because of personal reasons, for examples, being busy with their research or having presentation at outstation. So, to overcome this problem, human resource department need to assign another lecturer to take over the responsibility of delivering lectures. In fact, different lecturers may have different progress of delivering lecturers. Consequently, they cannot finish the syllabus on time and need extra lecture hours to complete it.

Moreover, since UTP is a well-known tier-5 university, UTP needs to increase the quality of the students’ academic performance so that UTP graduates can compete with other graduates. This can ensure students to have a brighter future and can get employed easily since they understand the theory better and know how to apply it. With proper facilities in UTP, students can learn well during lectures. Therefore, long lectures hours are not a bad thing if we think in a positive way.

In a nutshell, there are many factors that make up long lecture hours in UTP. Students should cherish every single moment during because lecturers spend their time to impart knowledge and experience to them. So that, they will be well equipped themselves and get ready to step into the working life.
