Lecture hours is too long
Most students complaint 'why is lecture hours should be this long?'. In other cases, they were just following the course coordinator without knowing the pro and cons. Lectures are a must for students to learn but it should not consume a large amount of time. There are some reasons that we should consider before assigning how long should the lecture hours be which is student's and lecturer's endurance, interaction between lecturer and students and student's way of studying.
Every person have their own limits. They can concentrate in the lecture hall for a certain time. This goes the same for the lecturer and the students. After they reached their limit, they will not get any benefit from the lecture. They will start to fell asleep. This is a waste of time!Course coordinator should consider to ensure the maximum efficiency of the lecture.
Secondly, in a lecture, there are more that 90 students in a lecture hall and there is only one lecturer. It is very hard for one person to control more that 90 student. Rather that making long lecture hours, it is better to extend the hours of the tutorial classes. This is because tutorial classes consists of 20-30 student only. It is much easier to control 30 student that controlling 90 students.
Every student have their own way of studying. Some needs lecturers, some needs their friends and others learn by themselves which means they need some free time. As for students that needs their lecturers, they can just call or see their lecturers. But if other student want to study by themselves, they cannot. They have to come to the lectures as it is compulsary in their sillibus. This will cause trouble in their results as they cannot study in their own special way.
To sum it all up, lecture hours should be reduced considering the student's and lecturer's endurance, interaction between lecturer and students and student's way of studying. This way, we can improve the number of first class honour graduates.
