Yeap Xin Wei

Bang! Incidents happen every day and we know that for every cause, there has to be an effect. Days that make you feel that you are no longer the same old self in the past. Those days that changed the way we lead life and how we perceive others. We often never realize this change until after some time and it remains in our memories as a scar until another scar replaces its existence. For me, this scar is the incident when my group got lost during a night walk in the jungle.

Leadership camps weren’t something I always loved during my high school days. My introvert personality makes me prefer studying at home or only hanging out with a small group of friends during the weekends. However, during Form 4, I decided to conform to my friends to enroll ourselves in the leadership camp with an excuse of acquiring new experiences. Everything was set and we reached the camp site early in the morning. The agendas went smoothly, until the moonlight began to shine over the land as we prepare for our last activity of the first day – night walk in the jungle.

The night walk was intended to expose us to the jungle’s terrain before going for the real deal on the next day. Little did we know, the 20 minute night walk turned out to be a 3 hour nightmare. We tightened our fists and went into the dark jungle illuminated by the dim moonlight. Everything was according the plan as the facilitators guided us through the jungle path covered by leaves. However, I felt something was not right when the group occasionally stops at intervals, as if the facilitators in front are figuring the way out. The news spread from the front to the back, which was where I was at, and soon enough, the whole group began to panic as we halted at a wide flat area. I couldn't be certain what we would've been doing next, but I can only be certain about one thing – we were lost.
